Another Auction Success!
SOL's latest auction, the Sizzling Summer Sale, was an unexpected success. Thanks to the generosity of our members we had 142 items on offer. These ranged from dog toys, collars, beds and leads to works of art, tarot readings, reiki healing sessions and a host of other very desirable things.
Our members then opened up their hearts and their Paypal accounts and the bidding started. One of our newer members got so carried away that she ended up spending £340! We love spendthrifts like that!
At the final count the monies pledged came to the pleasing total of £1,074.30 – hurray! Our thanks go to those generous members who donated items and who spent wildly.
Thanks to you we are able to make substantial donations to two lesser-known rescues: NEGLR (North Eastern Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue) and Greyhounds Galore.
We are hoping that our Treasurer, Debs aka Spindles, will be able to present the cheques in person. We will add photos as soon as we can.
Thank you again on behalf of the sighthounds whose lives you will be improving by your kindness.

£1450 Raised in Spring Auction
And what an auction it was!
We had such a lot of items donated by generous people who support our cause. There were magnificient works of art, exquisite hound collars, luxurious dog beds and a host of other goodies.
And thanks to your spendthrift ways, I mean your generosity, we raised an amazing £1450! I cannot tell you how stunned we were when we (well OK, Annie) did the sums!
So we shall have a sizeable amount to offer to our two chosen rescues: Greyhound Gap and Tailends.
And it's not over yet because we still have a work of art to raffle - a painting donated by Jo March and which was beyond our pockets. Details of this will be announced in the next few days.
So a massive thankyou to all our members and to all those of you who joined from the Refuge and from Greyhound Gap to support the auction. Between us we did a really good job. And you have helped some sighthounds to enjoy a really good life.

Sponsor a Sighthound with SOL
At the end of January, Sighthounds Online (SOL to our friends) decided to give a few rescues a boost by offering their long-term dogs up for sponsorship. Long-term dogs are the ones who cannot be rehomed for some reason usually health reasons, occasionally for reasons of temperament or psychological damage.
We decided that £75 a year would be a reasonable sum per dog. After securing the agreement of the chosen rescues, we invited members to either sponsor the dog for a year totally at their own expense or to contribute to the cost with some other members. There was also a choice of paying immediately or in instalments.
We thought we were being a bit ambitious when we offered 6 dogs up for sponsorship: 2 from Mary's Dungarvan Kennels in Ireland, 2 from Scooby in Spain and two from Tailends in the UK.
Well you know that expression selling like hot cakes These dogs went in a twinkling and generous people rushed forward to sponsor these needy hounds. At the time the Admin team were trying to have an online meeting and this had to be constantly interrupted, as yet another dog went, obliging us to cast around for more dogs from the same rescues and others. We added 2 dogs from Saluki Welfare.
Within the week, 17 of the 19 dogs that we offered up for sponsorship had been spoken for and had SOL folk as sponsors. What about the other 2 dogs? Against the odds, two of the long-stayers from Scooby found homes! So that was even better news.
SOL members who came forward to sponsor the hounds now have certificates to celebrate their generosity. And you can identify them on the boards because they have a rather smart logo in their signature showing the picture of the dog(s) they have sponsored.
Thanks to everyones generosity, we were able to raise an amazing total of £1,295 for the chosen rescues.
Thank you so much to SOL members!
A new section for the sponsor dogs with photos and information about each one will follow.

January Walk in Sussex
If you thought that Sighthounds Online was just a place for making online friends then you would be mistaken, often members get together for walks in the country or along the beach with their hounds and even sometimes stop for a pint or a cuppa and a bite to eat too!
Saturday 28th January was one of these get-together-for-a-walk days and much fun was had by all! Six members along with their other halves and children and a total of ten hounds met up along side the river Adur just outside Shoreham.
A photo report will be available soon.

Mad March Auction Announced!
We all love a bargain, and yet we're all probably all a bit hard up after Christmas, soooo, we have decided to hold our first auction of 2006 in March. It'll be something to look forward to along with Spring and its longer, warmer days, and daffodils and of course Easter eggs!
It'll start on Friday 24th March from 9am (with a special preview Thursday night for SOL mates ) and will finish at 9pm on Sunday 2nd April.
We are scouring the world for bargains to bring you, but as always your donations are needed - they are what make our auctions the success they are, so a big THANK YOU in advance! Pressies you didn't want, examples of your skills, samples of your produce, whatever you think would help to raise money for hungry hounds will be warmly welcomed
Stay tuned for details of the beneficiaries in due course, SOL Mates are currently voting for their favourites from a short list.

New Staff Member
The Admin team of SOL are pleased to announce that they have invited Nicki (aka Nicki&Hounds) to join the team and that she has accepted. We felt we needed some more Salukis on the team to cause chaos.
Nicki is going to use her public relations skills to carry out the job of Events Publicist, but she might be able to come up with a better title than that.
Anyway, welcome aboard Nicki and thank you!
